Bill Colwell Ford Hosts 8th Annual Drive 4 UR School Event

6 09 2016

fprb_13d4urs_rgb_r01Bill Colwell Ford will host their 8th Annual Drive 4 UR School event on Monday, September 19th, from 11:00 – 8:00 p.m. at their dealership in Hudson, IA. The Drive 4 UR School program started in 2007 and is a fun, engaging way to help schools raise money to support their sports and extracurricular activities. Ford and Ford Dealerships, like Bill Colwell Ford, partner with a local high school to conduct a test-drive fundraising event. For every valid test-drive completed, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to the participating high school, up to $6,000. So, the more people who test-drive a Ford vehicle at the event, the more money can be raised.

Since 2009, Bill Colwell Ford has been able to raise $45,220 for the Hudson Athletic Boosters. The Hudson Athletic Booster Club is committed to supporting the uniform replacement for the Student Athletes.  In addition, the Booster Club supports equipment and facility upgrades as deemed necessary by the Board or as requested by the Coaching Staff.

“We are really lucky to have such a supportive community and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone come out again this year,” commented Dan O’Malley, Hudson Booster Club President.

What is Ford Certified Pre-Owned (CPO)?

21 07 2016

In your hunt for a Ford pre-owned vehicle, you may have come across the term, CPO or Certified Pre-Owned, and thought to yourself “What does that mean?” In short, every Ford CPO vehicle comes with: 12-month/12,000 mile comprehensive limited warranty coverage, seven-year/100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty coverage, and a 172-point vehicle fordcertifiedinspection. And if you’re like most people you may still be asking, “What does that mean?” Because CPO is much more than a couple of warranties and a vehicle inspection, we’re here to break down the components of a Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.

 172-Point Inspection

Ford cars, SUVs, crossovers, and trucks that are current or five previous model years and have less than 80,000 miles can qualify for CPO. These vehicles are put through a rigorous 172 point inspection including a vehicle history report, road tests, exterior inspection, interior inspection, diagnostics, under the hood inspection, and underbody inspection.

Limited Warranty Coverage

Comprehensive Limited Warranty Coverage

In addition to the 172-point inspection, every Ford CPO vehicle comes with a comprehensive limited warranty covering more than 1,000 components for up to 12 months and 12,000 miles. Areas of coverage include:

  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Rear-wheel drive
  • Steering components
  • Brakes
  • Electrical system
  • Air conditioning and heating
  • Technology components
  • Emissions components
  • Front and rear suspension

Powertrain Limited Warranty Coverage

In addition to the Comprehensive Limited Warranty Coverage, Ford CPO includes seven-year/100,000 mile powertrain limited warranty coverage. This includes the engine, transmission, 24-hour roadside assistance, and Ford extended services plans for additional coverage.

Ford Credit

One of the many benefits of buying a Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is the flexible financing options from Ford Credit. Ford Credit provides low APRs, special programs, and a wide range of financing options. There are also online tools to make managing your account convenient. The tools include the Account Manager that allows you to pay your bill, track your payoff progress, and change your due date. The Mobile Account Manager allows you access on the go via your smartphone. Lastly, Ford Credit offers exceptional Customer Service and allows you to ask your questions anytime online.

25 Years of the Ford Explorer

30 06 2016

For the Ford Explorer, 2016 is a big year-its 25th anniversary. The Explorer wasn’t the first SUV it hit the market, but it didn’t take long to become the most popular. Its first generation sold more than 300,000 units per year and by the second generation Ford sold more Explorers than import SUVs combined. It has undergone many changes and had quite the face-lift! Here is a look at a few of the improvements through its evolution.

The Ford Explorer debuted in 1991 as a replacement for the Bronco II. Much like the Bronco II, the Explorer’s design sprang from the Ford Ranger pickup. The explorer came in both two-and four-door models, the four-door being more popular among families. The first generation Explorer was also available as a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual.

In 1995 the Explorer underwent its first overhaul, including improvements to safety features. The Explorer was now equipped with air bags and rear headrests. The second generation also brought an exterior face-lift and mechanical changes.

The year 2002 brought big changes for the Explorer. It parted ways with its Ranger origins and was now available with third-row seating, making a total of seven seats. It also had improved handling due to an independent rear suspension as well as improved safety features such as, ABS and SecuriLock anti-theft system.

In 2006 the Explorer went “green.” Changes to the V6 engine reduced emissions and the new six-speed transmission paired with the V8 maximized fuel economy. Additionally, in 2008 Ford debuted the Ford Sync System.

The fifth generation redesign was based on the unibody chassis of the Ford Taurus. In 2011 there was the choice between a 3.5L V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission and a 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 engine as well as front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

There are more options than ever in the 2016 model. You’ll find many high-tech safety features to choose from, including blind-spot warning, lane-keep assist, 180-degree front and rear cameras, adaptive cruise control, an automatic parking system, and forward collision warning. Although the 3.5L V6 engine comes standard, the available 2.3L EcoBoost engine now offers 280 horsepower, 310 pound-foot of torque, and a towing capacity of 3,000 pounds.

Twenty-five years after its debut and the Explorer continues to perform. Take a look at Explorers in our inventory by visiting or give us a call at 319-988-4153!

Summer Road Trip Tips

20 06 2016

Before hitting the open road this summer it is important to do your road trip research. Whether you are headed a short distance or across the country, here are some tips to ensure that your vehicle and your family are prepared for a safe and fun-filled vacation.

  1. Pre-trip auto maintenance: Whether you do it yourself or leave it to the professionals, it’s necessary to check your fluids, tires, breaks, belts, hoses, headlights, and taillights before hitting the road. Nothing can ruin a road trip like an unexpected mishap that could have been prevented.
  2. Join a roadside rescue service: In the event that something does happen, you’ll want to be prepared to call for help. Having an 800-number that immediately hooks you up with approved local tow services and mechanics will save you a lot of unwanted hassle.
  3. Division of labor: Some people are good at directions, others couldn’t read a map if they tried. Some people know how to pack a meal and others think chips and a donut make a great lunch. Know who does what well and know what is important to you and your companions before dividing up jobs.
  4. Clean your car before and during: Go ahead, leave all the gum wrappers, old receipts, and dirty nacleaningpkins that already reside in your glove box and center console…but you’ll be sorry. Several days into your road trip when you’ve accumulated more wrappers and fast food trash you will sure wish you had pulled out the Shop-Vac before leaving. To keep the tight road trip quarters clean, always give your vehicle a good cleaning before your departure.
  5. Have your documents and a clean record: Nobody plans to get pulled over for any reason, but if it happens you can save yourself some trouble (and money) if you double check that your glove box has up-to-date insurance, title, and registration documents. You may also want to clear up any traffic and parking tickets, as your vehicle can be impounded for outstanding fines.

Before packing the trunk and preparing the snacks, give Bill Colwell Ford a call at 319-988-4153 to schedule your pre-trip checkup and detail!

2017 Fusion Preview

9 06 2016

From the stylish exterior updates, to the smart technologies offered on the interior, this midsize sedan is meant to be noticed. For 2017, the Fusion offers two new models, Platinum and Sport, as well as three new exterior colors, Burgundy Velvet, Lightning Blue, and White Gold. Allowing customers to tailor a model and design to match their needs and desires.

Following its debut in the 2017 Escape, Sync 3 with Sync Connect, is making an appearance in the 2017 Fusion. With its easy-to-use design Sync 3 helps drivers stay connected to the vehicle while in, and away, from the car. Through the use of the smart phone app, FordPass, drivers can schedule start times, lock and unlock the vehicle, and check the fuel and mileage status. The new Fusion also offers adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go. This feature adapts to current traffic conditions, will warn the driver of risks for collision, and apply the brakes-without assistance from the driver-if the system detects that the car in front has unexpectedly reduced speed.

The Individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System is a feature new to the 2017 Fusion that uses a sensor based system to alert the driver of significant under-inflation of individual tires via a warning light on the dash.  Also available on the 2017 Fusion V6 Sport is the all new Pothole Detection System. While it’s impossible to miss all potholes, Ford engineers have developed an advanced computer-controlled shock absorber system, which significantly reduces that unpleasant feeling one gets when driving down a pothole-riddled road. This advanced technology helps to protect your car and your wallet. According to AAA, pothole damage cost U.S. drivers approximately $3 billion a year and drivers report paying $300 to repair pothole-related vehicle damage.

fsn17_models_detailflip_gearshiftA major change for 2017 is the Fusion’s new rotary gear shift dial. Replacing the traditional mechanical gear shift knob, the gear shift dial now works electronically. To place the vehicle in gear you simply turn the dial to the desired gear setting.

To accompany the striking exterior there is a variety of new wheel options available including the 19” premium painted tarnished dark, standard on the V6 Sport. The new Fusion is also equipped with LED tail-lamps and a push-button start.

Bill Colwell Ford currently has the 2017 Fusion in our inventory. To check it out and learn more about package and model options, visit or give us a call at 319-988-4153!
